I'm going to go get me some more pantalones!
![]() 05/19/2014 at 13:55 |
|
My first was a 2005 E46 M3 Coupe, Black/Black with the 6 mt
My second was a 2011 E90 M3 Sedan Red/Silver with the DCT
Had to sell the second when the housing renovations/new roof got too expensive, and had wanted another once my savings recovered. My friend's dad did me a solid on the the pricing. His new Vette was stunning too- those C7's are amazing.

It came with the performance steering wheel!? You lucky bastard! Blue or yellow stripe?
Edit: Almost forgot - welcome to the E9X club! =)

I know- crazy right? Yellow stripe.

Totally awesome. I've wanted a fuzzy, stripey wheel since I got my M but I can't bring myself to do it. Much track time can be had for the same money. I keep telling myself I'll luck into a nice one used eventually, but it hasn't happened yet.

Awesome, man.
I keep seeing a Lime Rock M3 around town. It's torture.

Yeah, I get you on that. It is surprising nice though. It has a real Because Racecar feel to it.

Isn't the split armrest a euro spec feature?

I just sold my E46 Comp Package friday. Looking for an E90/E92 AW comp package to replace it. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how the 2 compare. I've been doing a lot of reading since friday, and some people regret upgrading to the newer M3. I hope I'm not going to be one of those. Lol

Sooooooooooo nice
Do you still have any of the other ones? What kind were they?
I'm on #2. I thought the intervention starts at the 3rd one, haha

So, now I have to know your opinions on DCT vs. 6MT.
Chose the manual in my E90.

I found the E92 to be better in most ways actually. I wasn't a huge fan of the E46 rasp. I prefer the 6mt in the E92 over the E46's which I found a bit too notchy. The interior and electronics are vastly better in the E92. The engine note (induction and exhaust) is delightful. It also is less temperamental and less fragile. But the e46 felt lighter, and did have the classic design. After I sold my E46 I really didn't want another. After I sold my E90 I definitely did want another one, just the coupe this time. Note- the E92 does burn an impressive amount of fuel and rear tires, plan accordingly.

Twin is that you?

Sold them both- 2005 6mt coupe, 2011 DCT Sedan.
5 is the invention- needed some head room just in case. . . .
![]() 05/19/2014 at 14:40 |

Nice. I have a 2004 Coupe and a 2011 Sedan right now. The sedan is white on black like your new car.
I'm glad 5 is the intervention! I still got some time then :)

Both are excellent. The DCT is faster, and the rev matched downshifts are fantastic. I am a fan of BMW's DCT transmissions.
But the 6 speed involves you a bit more, make you feel like you are actually driving it. The DCT is the logical choice. The 6MT is the emotional one.

leaves some room for an E30 down the line. . .

Mild stuff at first, as I still have 2 months of warranty left.

Exactly!
Though the time to buy was 5 years ago :(

Blackstone Oil report?I don't think the 2011s were affected, but some people were reporting excess wear on their main bearings. Some of which were attributed to the bearings being stalled with protective film in place on the back size. This film was thick enough to cause the high wear rates. BMW has even "gifted" some brand spanking new engines because of it.

Don't have one yet. Probably will get one next oil change. This is the Rod Bearing issue, right?

Great summary.
I bought my car, in large part, for the involvement and emotional connection, and with the understanding that I wanted to keep it for a long time.
If I was more worried about winning at the drags or getting the very best time around a track, I may have swung the other way, but damn I love having all four limbs involved when driving a car...

Might want to have them check your AC for leaks before it's up. The AC evaporator is a common repair - I caught mine just before the factory warranty ran out. Also had them replace some worn trim on the steering wheel, console and doors.

Damn... Good eye! I want the blue stripe.

Me too me too! Please buy one and then have it cloned for me. Thanks in advance.

Yes sir. Just because a couple fools didn't pay attention when they were installing the bearings. There's a good thread on bimmerpost about it. I think that EAS was leading the charge during a supercharger install.
